What is Noindex?

Noindex is an instruction that tells search engines not to show a page in their results.

It can be set with <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> or the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header. It suits thank-you pages, internal search results and private reports.

For noindex to work, the page must not be blocked in robots.txt — the crawler has to read the page to see the instruction.
